Our History:

The Rotary Club of Plainfield was chartered on February 7, 1948 by Stanley Metcalf, Governor of District 199.  The first president was Thomas J. Seaton.  The Rotary motto "Service Above Self" and the belief that "He Profits Most Who Serves Best" was immediately translated into action through youth activity programs, such as Rotary Junior League Baseball and a swimming program.  In May of 1959, a Scholarship Loan Fund was set up. This was cancelled in 1970 when the Club voted to issue outright scholarships instead of loans.  The primary source of funds for this purpose is the Miss Plainfield (aka PIMA) Pageant conducted each year, enabling the club to give thousands of dollars in scholarships.

Our Club has produced three district governors for District 7890:  C.Stanton Gallup in 1953, Richard Gallup in 1974 and Albert Mizak in 1990.

The Rotary Club of Plainfield makes a difference in the lives of  many people in our community, in our country and in the world.

Our Projects and Activities:

  • We honor students in the high school who have achieved scholastically and have demonstrated good citizenship with a dinner and awards.

  • We sponsor an Interact Club to encourage young people to assist in community events.

  • We give food baskets at Thanksgiving and gift certificates at Christmas to those who are in need in our community.

  • We sponsor a pancake breakfast each year with the proceeds going back into the community.

  • We send students to other countries as well as support and house exchange students here in our community.

  • We send sophomores from Plainfield High School to Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) each year.

  • We sponsor the Miss Plainfield Pageant.

  • We sponsor a Country Talent Show each year called "Catch A Rising Star."

  • And our newest project is a bike ride in partnership with Gramieskids to raise funds for supplies needed to help autistic children in our community.
